About Peter’s Music

Peter’s Music

A Wide Range of Experience

Peter became involved in music from an early age, singing  in the church choir, and studying trombone in school.  In high school, he began playing guitar in a big jazz band (30 pieces), playing standards from the 30s and 40s.  This led to tours of Canada  (Expo 67) and Japan (Expo 70).  When the bass player went off to college, he switched to playing bass for several years.

Part of the life of the Arica community included African Dance, so he began learning congas and djembe, playing for countless workshops, dances, and parties.

In the 80s, he heard a band playing indigenous music from the Andes, and it was an out-of-body experience.  He then learned to play the panpipes, bamboo flute, and charango from that tradition.

He has sung in choruses throughout his life, most recently the Mill Valley Community Chorus, in Marin County, CA.  In 2015, they performed one of his original compositions, River of Life, to an enthusiastic reception.

In the early 2000s, he became fascinating with Traditional Irish Music, playing in weekly Slow Sessions in the Berkeley Area.  As a result, he learned to play Irish bouzouki, penny whistle, and Uillean pipes.  He knows a broad catalogue of Traditional Irish songs.

Starting in the 1970s, he has written his own songs, and recorded them in various 4 and 8-track recording studios.

In 2010, he became interested in digital recording, based in Logic on the Mac.  He built a home recording studio, and began mastering the art of recording and mixing his own songs.

His songs spring from his metaphysical background, and focus on uplifting and expansive themes.  His recordings draw from all his experience, particularly choral singing.  He arranges for four voices  –– Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass  ––  with results sounding something like the Mamas and the Papas, and the Fifth Dimension (interesting coincidence !)
